  • Sarge earns Master Advanced

April 12, 2025 / Steve and Betsy Surprenant

Victory’s Staff Sergeant CDX JH MHU MHUA BCAT WCX (“Sarge”) has just earned her Master Hunter Upland Advanced (MHUA) title, making her one of a very small number of retrievers in the country to achieve this distinction in AKC spaniel hunting tests. The MHUA title—awarded to dogs who earn five additional qualifying scores after receiving their Master Hunter Upland (MHU) title, with an average score of 8.0 or higher—recognizes consistent excellence at the highest level of flushing dog work. Sarge is a determined, stylish worker who lives up to her name in the field, combining high drive and obedience with natural gamefinding ability. Her accomplishment is a testament not only to her skill and heart, but also to the versatility of the Flat-Coated Retriever in upland hunting. Yea, Sarge!

  • One Fast Cat and a FETCHing Good Time

    April 6, 2025 / Penny Woodward

Crimson, CH Flatgold’s Storming Heart JH *FCAT* WC DJ CGC TKN, spent a good weekend with the Shenandoah Valley Kennel Club where she earned her last points for her FCAT title. After she was done with that, Crimson went on to run in the FETCH trial where she was also “the demo dog” and earned a qualifying pass (we did it 2 days under the same judge so the second doesn’t count).

  • Grey Fetches His First Titles

    April 5, 2025 / Marla Stoner

Grey fetched his first titles. We went to the Fetch tests hosted by the Shenandoah Valley Kennel Club. On Friday Grey passed the Novice test in both trials for his FTN title. Saturday I moved him up to the Intermediate test and he passed the test in both Trials for his FTI title. I’m very proud of my pup!
Thrill didn’t want to be left out of the fun so he also ran. On Friday he passed the test in the first trial but in the second trial he found something that was too interesting on the second retrieve and reverted to an old bad habit. He didn’t pass that test. Saturday Thrill ran Novice in the first trial and kept his attention on what he was doing to pass for his FTN title. In the second trial I moved him up to Intermediate and he passed.

  • I love Scotch N Soda!

April 5, 2025 / Don and Susan Bierer

We are so proud of Peat. He earned is Utility Dog title early March, his Senior Hunter title late March, and his Working Certificate Excellent title early April. Together with his Grand Champion title last May, Peat qualifies for the FCR Hall of Fame.

No moss will grow under Peat’s paws. Peat and I will train indoors for UDX over the hot summer months while I evaluate whether to make the big leap for MH. I’ve always dreamed of having a GCH and owner trained and handled MH. Peat can do it, if I can. We’ll see.
